Our Story
The Bumbles Nursery group is owned and directed by Ange, Steve and Ian Makinson. Ange worked as an RGN on a busy Accident and Emergency Department until it became apparent that there was a need for local excellent quality childcare provision. Steve worked for many years implementing Quality Assurance in an American Life Sciences company. Ian worked as a Senior Private and Airline Pilot for 12 years for business and commercial operators around Europe.
Ange and Steve have together been running their group of nurseries for over twenty years and Ian joined the group in 2021. The story begins in 2004 when following on from the success of their very busy After School clubs Ange opened Maghull Nursery, Within three months it was running at full capacity as their reputation grew, regarding the high standards of care that was being offered.
Not long after due to the length of the waiting list in Maghull, Aintree Nursery was opened where they have since secured an Outstanding rating from Ofsted in a recent inspection. Due to the growing reputation locally of Bumbles Nurseries providing children with excellent quality of care and education Orrell Park was also opened in 2018.
With Ange and Steve being parents of four children and grandparents to twelve children, along with Ian being a parent of two children their passion stems from wanting all children to feel confident and happy about themselves thereby enabling them to aim for whatever they wish for in life.
Ange, Steve and Ian believe in being positive role models for the team of staff they employ therefore Ange gained L3 Play work, and a degree with honours in Childcare Management. Steve and Ian gained Level 3 in Childcare, alongside these qualifications Ange, Steve and Ian also continue to undertake all relevant training to maintain the same training programme as all staff.
Ange, Steve and Ian have a hands-on approach thereby being active and visible daily in all three nurseries.

Here at Bumbles we have a shared vision that all children should be able to follow their dreams. With this at the heart of everything we do we feel passionately about providing an environment where children feel safe and happy. When a child is safe and happy, they can grow in confidence enabling them to actively engage with their peers and the activities around them.
By having successful relationships with their peers, children then share experiences and different ideas between each other. They learn about friendships and how to negotiate with others.
Our qualified and nurturing staff team can help develop and further support each child’s confidence by providing the children with activities which encourage them to become inquisitive learners.
We feel that if children are happy and interested then they will learn much more than if they are not interested or comfortable in their surroundings.
At Bumbles we are proud to be a part of creating the building blocks to give children the tools to move onto school with confidence and inquisitiveness.
