Outings
At Bumbles we believe that children’s learning should be extended in as many ways as possible. Going out on trips/outings teaches children to respect the world they live in and allows them to get to know the local area.
‘It is the role of the setting to help children experience the awe and wonder of the world in which they live, through the seven areas of learning.’ (Ofsted, 2019)
It is important to offer children many different experiences during their time with us, therefore we enjoy taking the children out on different trips whether this be using our turtle bus for the younger children, prams for the babies, walking or going out in our own mini bus. Taking a ride on the local bus or train and talking about what they can see enhances the children’s learning and increases their vocabulary by seeing new exciting things around them.
It is important for the children to build up a sense of the wider community from a young age, it enables them to learn about where they fit in. We often take the children to the local shops, parks, post office, fish stall or library.
The local environment can provide an exciting context for first-hand experiences for the children. The connections children make with their local environment can last a lifetime. If in the very early years we can build these connections and values in children they will hopefully take these with them throughout their lives and become very community-minded and responsible adults.
